Zebbug Open Plan

An open-plan living space brought into balance through custom joinery, colour, and thoughtful continuity.

An Open Plan Renewed

This project began with an open-plan space that never quite found its footing.  The bones were there, but the room felt unresolved.  A generous volume left bare, with existing furniture that didn’t quite speak to one another.   The clients got in touch wanting to understand how the space could finally come together and feel complete.

The aim was not to start from scratch, but to build thoughtfully on what already existed.  I worked closely with the couple to layer the space with bespoke elements that would bring cohesion, warmth, and a sense of purpose, while respecting the wider design language of their home.

 

The living area was anchored by custom joinery that frames the television and fireplace, introducing rhythm and verticality while providing practical storage. Warm timber tones were balanced with softer finishes and carefully chosen shelving, allowing personal objects and books to become part of the composition rather than visual clutter.

Colour played a key role in grounding the space.  The deep green upholstery  and the light flooring was balanced out with a textured rug add depth and richness and layered cushions soften the overall look.  The palette was deliberately restrained – warm, earthy, and calm-so that the space feels inviting rather than overdesigned.

A bespoke bench seat by the fireplace created an intimate moment within the open plan, offering a place to pause, read, or simply sit closer together.  

 

This design was about giving the space a sense of belonging.  Bringing together existing pieces, enhancing them with tailored interventions, and introducing colour, texture, and warmth.  The result is an open-plan living area that finally feels resolved: cohesive, lived-in, and aligned with the rest of the home.
