My clients were entering an exciting new chapter. They were ready to simplify, to live with less, and to live better. After spending many years living in a larger home, they craved a fresh start somewhere smaller, brighter, easier. Their new apartment in Balzan offered the perfect blank canvas.
The space was designed with the couple’s lifestyle in mind—low-maintenance but not lacking in charm, pared-back yet warm. Think natural oak, textured textiles, and a palette of soft earth, moss, and stone. Nothing precious, everything intentional.
The open-plan living space was designed to feel as comfortable reading the Sunday papers as it would hosting a wine night with friends and family. The custom wall unit was a big moment for us —open shelves to layer books and display that treasured dinner set, closed storage to keep the mess out of sight, and just enough symmetry to feel polished without being stiff. We love how the olive green velvet chairs add depth and personality, like someone who doesn’t speak often but always says something clever.
The kitchen is all about quiet confidence. Matte surfaces, warm timber tones, and a bar that invites casual breakfasts and late-night chats. From the peninsula, you catch a glimpse of the village outside—the classic limestone buildings, the rhythm of Balzan’s streets. That connection to the outside world was really important to my clients.
In the study, the palette gets richer—walnut cabinetry, a midnight blue armchair, a vintage footstool with just the right amount of pattern. This is where old-world cosiness meets clean-lined clarity. A space to read, think, escape.
The main bedroom is soft and soothing. Clay-toned walls, crisp linens, and a curated selection of vintage etchings that hint at stories untold. It’s the kind of room that asks you to pause, slow down, breathe a little deeper.
I loved working with this couple because they didn’t want fast trends or glossy minimalism. They wanted texture, soul, and pieces that age beautifully. It’s a space that isn’t trying too hard, but still feels like it has something to say—just like lovely the people who live in it.
